George VI "Mufti" Period
1937 - 1942
United States Rates and Fees




The letter and post card rates to the United States in effect during the "Mufti" period had remained unchanged since 1931. The air mail rate had been introduced in 1934. The only fee change was the reduction of the special delivery fee from 20 cents to 10 cents on March 1, 1939.


1. Letters

The letter rate was 3 cents for the first ounce and 2 cents for each additional ounce.

Canadian Pacific Lodge : Lake Wapta

The CPR maintained a train station and lodge on Lake Wapta, Hector B.C., in the Canadian Rockies. The glacier lake is located in Yoho National Park near the Alberta border.

Lodge mail was brought to the train station and picked up by passing mail cars on CPR trains.
