The Inter-Parliamentary Union is an international organization established in 1889 as a forum for political multilateral negotiations. Initially, the organization was for individual parliamentarians, but has since transformed into an international organization of the parliaments of sovereign states.
The 54th Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference was held in Ottawa September 8 to 17, 1965. The Inter-Parliamentary commemorative stamp, designed by Phillips-Gutkin & Associates, was issued on September 8, 1965.
