High Value National Parks Definitives : 1979 - 1989

Canada's National Parks were featured on the high-value definitive stamps in use from 1979 to 1989.


First Release: 1979

The first release of National Parks definitives was on January 29, 1979 consisting of the $1 Fundy National Park and $2 Kluane National Park stamps.


$1 Fundy National Park



The stamp was designed by Ron Bolt and printed by the Canadian Bank Note Co. (CBN).

1982 - 1986 Releases

Canada Post Corporation issued an additional six National Park high-value definitive stamps from 1982 to 1986. Two of the stamps, the  $1 Glacier National Park and the $2  Banff National Park replaced the first release Fundy and Kluane stamps respectively. New denominations were introduced  as well. Waterton Lakes was featured on a $1.50 stamp and Point Pelee National Park was shown on the $5.00 stamp. The Point Pelee stamp was subsequently replaced by the $5.00 La Mauricie National Park definitive stamp.

The stamps are shown in order of denomination and not by issue date.

$1 Glacier National Park



The $1.00 Glacier National Park stamp was designed by Brent Laycock. printed by the CNN,  and issued on August 15, 1984.

The Postal Archives have posted  has posted images of several essays of the Glacier stamp on its website .  It is interesting to note that the essays are denominated $3.00

$5.00 La Mauricie National Park



 The $5.00 La Mauricie National Park stamp design was based on a painting by LaurĂ©at Marois. The stamp was first printed by the CBN, and issued on March 14, 1986. In June 1987, the British American Bank Note Company printing was issued.
