Centennial Period International Rates
Other Articles (OA) Air Mail

An "Other Articles" air mail service for "Printed Matter", "Samples", "Newspapers", and "Literature for the Blind", was available from Canada to other countries.


Rate Periods

Period 1 : to May 31, 1967
Period 2 : from June 1 1967 to June 30, 1971
Period 3 : from July 1 1971



1) to May 31, 1967

There were three international OA rates in effect during Period 1 (ending May 31, 1967) :

i) 10 cents for each ounce destinations
Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Bermuda, Mexico, Central and South America and the West Indies

ii) 15 cents for each ounce

This was an unsealed envelope sent mailed from Regina to Lausanne, April 25 1967
It was returned for better direction "No Post Office Named"
15 cents paying the 1 ounce OA rate
(It might be argued that this was 15 cents paying the 1/2 ounce airmail letter rate, but the envelope's size and the fact it was unsealed strongly suggest that this was an OA mailing.)


iii) 20cents for each ounce

All other destinations. This rate remained in effect until June 30 1971.

2) June 1 1967 - June 30 1971

On June 1, 1967, the OA rates were reduced to two destinations. The previous 10 cent destinations now became 15 cent destinations for the first ounce. There was no change to the 20 cent destinations.

i) 15 cents for each ounce
Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Bermuda, Mexico, Central and South America and the West Indies, and Europe

3) From July 1 1971

On July 1, 1971, a single OA rate to all countries was introduced : 12 cents for each ounce.
