Centennial Period Slogan Cancellations
1967

Slogan cancellations serve a number of purposes which include commemorating anniversaries, promoting events and organizations, providing timely messages about charities, and advising about post office services and mail handling.

Collectors who specialize in slogan cancellations are interested in earliest and latest dates, the post offices which used a particular slogan, as well as the identification of dies.

Classification of Slogans

David H. Proulx's list of slogans (Slogan Postal Cancels of Canada) published in 1978 is an excellent reference. Mr. Proulx lists the slogans alphabetically and also provides a "topical check list". Over 500 different slogans were produced during the Centennial period.

For this post, the 1967 have been organized as follows:

1. Centennial Themes

These are slogans that relate specifically to Centennial year celebrations. Souvenir covers that were posted in the earlier slogan article have not been included.

2. Events

Events that aren't specifically Centennial-related or make no mention of the Centennial in the slogan are found in this section.

3. Community Support and Publicity

Slogans that boost civic participation and pride are included in this section.

4. Campaigns

Slogans publicizing charities and campaigns are typically used yearly by several cities.

5. Post Office Slogans

The most common slogans are those produced by the Post Office advising about postal services and mail handling.
